Welcome to the new school year!
I am so excited to welcome your child back to school on Thursday, July 27.
We are excited to continue to meet the challenges and opportunities of growth to make sure Avon continues to be a place where ALL belong, learn, and grow. While students and staff have enjoyed summer break, the team in our Administration Center and school buildings has been busy preparing for the 2023-24 school year.
Here are just a few of the big things you can expect:
- Student enrollment will climb well over 10,500 as we are joined by new preschool students at White Oak Early Learning Center, new kindergarten students at each of our six elementary schools, and many new-to-Avon students in grades 1-12 who have moved into the Town of Avon and Washington Township.
- You'll see earth moving and steel rising as our Pine Tree Elementary renovation and expansion project approaches its January 2024 completion date.
- The renovation and expansion project at Avon High School continues; phase 1 will be complete this month and phases 2-4 are seeing rapid progress.
- Speaking of Avon High School — and both of our middle schools as well — I'm excited to report that we launched a new, unified athletics brand this summer.
- We are excited to welcome a new principal at Pine Tree Elementary, someone who many Avon families already know and love.
- A new assistant principal at Hickory Elementary will be hard at work supporting students and staff.
- Students will have the excitement of getting to know many of the dozens of new teachers and support staff we have hired this summer on their buses and in their schools.
As Superintendent, I get just as excited for the start of a new school year as I did when I had my own classroom. I am looking forward to seeing your children in their classrooms, in action at performances and athletic competitions, and enjoying the wide variety of extracurricular activities.
I hope you will join me in enjoying all this new school year will offer, and I look forward to working together to ensure ALL belong, learn, and grow in Avon Schools.

New Student Registration
If your child will enter kindergarten or if you are a new Avon resident and you have not yet registered, we encourage you to do so as soon as possible. We've provided some helpful information below.
- Preschool students must enroll with the White Oak Early Learning Center. Visit the website to learn more.
- For students in grades K-8, their school's registrar will verify that your online registration is complete by sending a welcome email. If additional documents are needed, you'll receive an email requesting the needed items
- For high school students, after you complete online registration, please contact your student's previous school as soon as possible to obtain a copy of their transcript. You will need a transcript to place your student in the proper classes for the upcoming school year. Once the registrar at AHS has received your student's online registration information, they will contact you to set up an enrollment appointment. All students must have an appointment to enroll. Guidance Office support staff will be available for your questions beginning July 14. Enrollment appointments will begin that week.

School Safety
Students learn best when they know they're safe.
Keeping students safe is our most important job. So, we collaborate with city, county, state, and national safety officials on national best practices. In addition to our central office staff and our incredible ACSC Police Department, we employ 12 certified Indiana School Safety Specialists who are trained to lead the development and implementation of school safety practices within our schools. We have well over 20 people on our staff who have completed School Safety Specialist training.
Students are our most important first responders when it comes to school safety, as they are the eyes and ears of what is happening before, during, and after school. Equipping them with a fast, secure, anonymous communication tool enhances our layers of school safety and better promote a “see something, say something, do something” school culture.
Grades 7-12
STOPit is a mobile app that empowers any student at Avon High School, Avon Middle School North, and Avon Middle School South to anonymously report school safety issues and reach out for help if they or a peer are facing a personal crisis or experiencing situations such as bullying, theft, mental health concerns, violence, sexual harassment, substance abuse, or any other student safety concern.
This app is available to students 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Click the button below to download the apps, read our FAQ, or submit a report.
Grades K-6
We are committed to equipping our students and their parents and guardians to report any incidents of bullying or unsafe behavior. Bullying or unsafe behavior means overt, unwanted, repeated acts or gestures, including verbal or written communications or images transmitted in any manner (including digitally or electronically), physical acts committed, aggression, or any other behaviors that are committed by a student or group of students against another student with the intent to harass, ridicule, humiliate, intimidate, or harm the targeted student and create for the targeted student and objectively hostile student environment.

Avon School Police Department
We are grateful for the fine group of individuals who work hard every day to keep our 10,500 students and 1,500 employees safe and secure.
Our School Resource Officers (SROs) are a regular presence in and around our 12 schools. They focus on building quality relationships with students and staff using a triad model in which they act as teacher, informal counselor, and law enforcement officer. They lead by example to promote and maintain a positive image of law enforcement for our students and our community.

Transportation
We are here to get your child to and from school safely and on time.
Every year, the Transportation Department receives thousands of calls from parents/guardians. So we can respond to your calls in a timely manner, we are establishing a temporary call center to assist with questions concerning transportation. Well-informed individuals who have the knowledge to answer your questions will be available beginning Monday, July 17.

Newly Enrolled Students
In most cases, transport can begin within 36-48 hours.
- Parents should contact the school of enrollment to request student be added to a bus route.
- School secretary verifies address information and communicates request with Transportation.
- Transportation confirms bus detail with school secretary.
- Secretary shares bus detail with parent.
- Parents of preschool/kindergarten students must complete this authorization affidavit [link coming soon]. (No student will be released to a person other than a parent or guardian if the form is not completed.)
Currently Enrolled Students
In most cases, transport can begin within 36-48 hours.
- Parents should contact their child's school to request student be added to bus route.
- School secretary communicates addition to the bus route with Transportation.
- Transportation confirms bus detail with school secretary.
- Secretary shares bus detail with parent.
High School Seniors
If you are the parent or guardian of a senior who attends Avon High School and they are in need of bus service for the 2022-23 school year, you must contact the transportation office to arrange bus service. Seniors are not automatically placed on the school bus roster at the beginning of the year. If a student intends to ride a bus, transportation must be notified as soon as possible. This process must be completed even if the student was a bus rider the previous school year.
